PEER REVIEW
Our review and editing processes are supportive. All major scientific articles go through peer review. This includes multiple reviewers and editing. If we feel your article will contribute to the healing literature, we will do everything we can to help you meet established scientific and peer reviewed standards. We invite first time and new authors to bring their wisdom on the topic and we will help you to be sure that you are meeting the content, quality and rigor of a scientific article.
ARTICLE CONTENT
See description of the scope and focus of the IJHC at www.ijhc.org.
All submitted papers are to be original, not published previously in print or online, or currently being submitted elsewhere.
The International Journal of Healing and Caring is Web journal. Not being restricted to the limits of paper pages or page counts in hard-copy journals, we invite and encourage authors to expand on their observations and ideas to the degree that feels comfortable and complete – to the mutual satisfaction of the author(s) and the IJHC editorial staff. See free issues of the IJHC at http://www.ijhc.org/ijhc-journal-contents/ from 2001 to the present. Login is required.
The IJHC focuses on the education, research and practice of holistic healing (body, emotions, mind, relationships and spirit), self-healing, healing our planet, healing our society, and bioenergy healing. We welcome articles on controlled research studies, qualitative studies, case reports, clinicians’ discussions of theory and practice, healing through the creative arts, and reflections relevant to healing.
Please submit your article in Word.doc or Word.docx format, with
- Title
- Names of all authors
- Author affiliations
- Contact details for the corresponding author
For citing references in your article, here is the URL for the guidelines IJHC now follows for formatting references http://library.concordia.ca/help/citing/apa.php.
A copyright release for the author(s) and another for patients/clients will be emailed to the corresponding author. Please print out and either scan or email.
We require an Abstract and 5 key words that are searchable through Google and other search engines so that interested potential readers can find your article. Please include the names and contact information for two qualified outside reviewers. All human and animal studies must have gone through a Research Ethics Review. Authors should provide study approval numbers and contact information for the Review Board.
For a formal research study the Abstract should be about 400 words and include:
- Objectives/Purpose
- Materials
- Method(e.g. Double blind study of [name intervention] vs. normal care)
- Participants (numbers, description)
- Intervention
- Outcome Measures
- Results
- Conclusion
A formal paper should be about 6000 to 12000 words and include:
- Objectives/Purpose
- Materials
- Method(e.g. Double blind study of [name intervention] vs. normal care)
- Participants (numbers, description)
- Intervention
- Outcome Measures
- Results
- Conclusion
For a case study, include a description of the method and theories explaining the method. Clinical documentation should be provided and recipients of the intervention must be consented. Case study series require a Human Studies Ethics Review approval.
All formal papers should meet CONSORT group reporting standards.
Length of article is very flexible. We suggest between 6000 and 12000 words for most full length articles. The web is very accepting of considered thoughts and illustrations, links. We do not simply reproduce articles that are easily available on the web elsewhere.
We ask for a non-exclusive copyright release, allowing you to re-use your materials as you wish. e.g. a chapter in a book could see more mileage that way. We only ask that you give the IJHC the exclusive rights to your article until the following issue is published. From that point forward the copyright will be held jointly.
Deadlines for IJHC submissions:
November 15 for January 1 issue
March 15 for May 1 issue
July 15 for September 1 issue
All articles are peer reviewed by a minimum of 2 of the following: the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board members and/ or outside reviewers. If your research topic is an unusual one, we might ask you to suggest several potential outside reviewers. This is both a peer review and scientific review process so you should expect a careful and complete review.
At the end of the article we include a brief bio (4-6 lines/120-150 words) and photo of each author, with contact details for the lead author required, and for other authors if they wish to include this.
We are also happy to consider for review any books, tapes, videos you may have.
