The Adventure; A Practical Guide to Spiritual Awakening by Steve Taylor
Review by Dr. Philip Freedman
The British spiritual psychologist, Steve Taylor, covers eight different areas that the author considers essential to spiritual awakening: disidentification, gratitude, presence, altruism, acceptance, integration, detachment, and embracing mortality. It was not clear to me why the author called the book Adventure rather than Awakening, which is what the book is about. Having said that, the author covers each aspect of spiritual awakening quite thoroughly and clearly. He also includes some of his own poetry in most chapters. Almost every chapter has excellent, practical guided imagery exercises. (these guided imagery exercises are now available on tape or MP3 I believe) Unlike some other authors on this topic, this book is quite down to earth and personable.
