WISH POLLUTION
     -BUY the article
Daniel J. Benor, MD

Have you ever had an unlikely wish come true? Did you have the feeling that you may have made it happen - perhaps through the strength of your desire or your activation of an energetic pattern of intent as you wish for it?

For the most part, people assume that when wishes come true it is a positive thing. On one level, the object or event of desire in the wish is a reward. In addition, there is an affirmation of a person's ability to shape reality and a feeling of being worthy on some higher level - as witnessed by having one's wishes granted.

Research in parapsychology and spiritual healing confirm that wishes and intents can alter the probabilities of:
- dice thrown mechanically showing a randomly chosen number
- a random number generator (RNG) deviating from random output, where the RNG is based on an   electronic program or radioactive emissions
- the cascade of balls through a randomizing maze of pins
- rates of growth of bacteria, yeasts, cells in laboratory culture, and plants
- rates of healing in animals who have malaria, amyloidosis, skin wounds
- rates of healing of humans who have anxiety, pain, depression.
The parapsychological research has been replicated in sufficient numbers of studies in numerous laboratories around the world, and the meta-analyses of the results are more substantial than in many other areas of research. Research on spiritual healing for human subjects also demonstrates significant effects in human and non-human subjects.

The Western worldview is one of seeking outer achievements and successes as ways of validating our personal worth and success in life. With this mindset, we develop a pattern of seeking ever more, never-ending outer goals. Our wishes are often directed towards successes in these endeavors and are never-ending, never satiating...

INTUITION RESEARCH: An investigation of the effects of intuitive development on women's health and spiritual wellbeing      -BUY the article
Deb Butterfield, MSW, LCSW, ThD

This effectiveness study, in the category of CAM health education, is based on the premise that intuition, health and spiritual wellbeing are interrelated; a change in one affects change in the others.  Intuition as a poorly understood function of the mind and body has limited empirical research or application in the health domain. As a source for spiritual awareness, intuition continues to have limited recognition as a factor critical to healing.  Nursing research identifies intuition as a valid form of knowledge.

The purpose of this study is to advance understanding that intuition is a practical and reliable resource for health and is a pathway to spiritual awareness. Because women are twice as likely as men to experience depression, there is, in addition, an emphasis on advancing a transpersonal energetic understanding of depression and other factors specifically impeding women's intuitive receptivity.

A significant change occurred in one aspect of self-actualization.  Depression scores showed significant improvement in the experimental group in 12 weeks.  Over 65% of the women reported more reliable connection with intuition; more than 50% took action on their intuitive insights in the course of their personal lives.

Living with Life Challenges

I lecture to nurses, hospitals and healthcare organizations on how to effectively work with frightened children in a variety of medical environments. I am a 1977 graduate of the Millard Fillmore School of Professional Nursing in Buffalo New York and have been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years. I have experience in Intensive Care, Emergency Room nursing and supervision, and at the Ruth and Billy Graham Children's Health Center. Currently I work in pediatric endocrinology at the Mission Children's Reuter's Center and in health education in Asheville, NC. I am actively involved in teaching injection and blood testing skills to children and their families, where the children are newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

The law of expectations occurs as an almost mandatory pre-curser when applied to the art of self-healing.  This law states: What the mind believes tends to be realized. Much of what we believe has a direct, immediate impact on how the course of healing unfolds, progresses and realizes itself. In fact, we may go to extremes to create that realization. We will look for a specific object, brand or person until we find our way of justifying and concretizing our beliefs.

This article reports on the experiences of two young children who were fearful of a medical procedure and how they were helped to overcome their fears.

Consider these options: You are on a journey that has been carefully customized specifically for you.  You are an essential part of the Universe. You are both a component of God's plan, and you are also a creator of the plan.  Nothing in your life has been accidental.  Your essence has been stamped on the places you've lived, the people you've spent time with, and the passions and desires that have filled your days  In your connections with  others, you collectively create the future.

Or, maybe you are a bit of aimless protoplasm. Caught in the forces of evolution, you've developed consciousness, intelligence and the ability to alter your environment.  Collectively, you, and the millions of others like you, are using these randomly developed traits to move at an ever expanding rate towards extinction.

Which version of yourself gives you more energy and motivation?  Which encourages you to give the best of yourself to your life and to the lives of those you care about?  Which has an intuitive resonance?

"AND THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE":
Impressive results of non-traditional healing methods in treating Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD/CRPS)

-BUY the article
Nancy Hopps, LMT, CSH

This article is a summary of my work with a young woman, "Marissa," who was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, also known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD/CRPS). This is a very painful disorder that has no generally accepted treatment in conventional medicine. After several months of unsuccessful nerve blocks and other allopathic approaches, the only western medical treatment options presented to her were placing a morphine pump in her back, or performing a sympathectomy (severing of the sympathetic nervous system to the affected limb.) Both are considered palliative measures, not cures. Fortunately, at that point she was referred to a physician who diagnosed Marissa's disease as being psychosomatic in origin. Shortly thereafter, I began working with her. Because Marissa's symptoms were so severe, the medical testing and previous treatments so extensive, and the cure so dramatic, hers is one of the most profound examples of mindbody healing I have witnessed in many years of practice. Most notable, the fact that the symptoms were such a clear metaphoric reflection of the underlying emotional issues makes this case study a wonderful example of the synergistic, (and creative!) workings of the mindbody continuum. Simply put, as the underlying emotional issues were resolved, the amazingly congruent physical symptoms also disappeared. We used many techniques and therapeutic approaches, but as is evidenced below, "the greatest of these was Love."

In my chemical engineering training in the 1960's, concepts of energy were rigorously defined by engineering physics studied in conventional thermodynamics, chemical reaction kinetics, and nuclear engineering. "Subtle energy" was not in my knowledge base.  This article is intended to give the reader practical insight on several key energy principles applicable to spiritual healing from the perspective of an engineer who has become a spiritual healing technologist.

My six years of college technical education and 43-year high tech science career in the design, development and implementation of advanced digital systems for government and industry disciplined me to investigate, challenge and explain the healing phenomena to which I have been exposed. I share here a few of my personal experiences in 29 years of energy healing and spiritual healing.

Wholistic Approaches

This article explores how the understanding of human perception and specifically its ability to grasp the numinous has developed in the West since seventeen-seventy, and how it has increasingly related to the experiential Vedantic tradition of India.

Beginning with the thought of David Hume, the first person in modern times to insist on the exclusive primacy of experience as a basis for valid perception and knowledge, I touch on the thought and discoveries of savants who built on that presupposition.  I conceive of four historical groups in the West, each of which contains:
1. A primary theoretician.
2. A savant who applied the theory to practical situations.
3. A savant who worked on an interface with other disciplines.
4. A "mystic" who added new dimensions to the whole discussion.
The overall findings of each of these four groups are then compared with the discoveries and teachings of a contemporary sage in the Vedanta tradition.
In the West these figures are distinguished by their qualifications in Western science, including psychology and philosophy.  In India, the selected figures are recognized as masters of experiential religion and its traditional framework of explanation extant in India.

My thesis is that what Western savants arrived at as a group is mirrored and complemented in the more holistic thinking of the great Indian spiritual figures who were their contemporaries.  I show how India has contributed to the West's ongoing development in the world of spiritual perception and experience, particularly in more recent history.

Quilts that Teach     -BUY the article
Jacqueline Mast
Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths;
I was born with a needle and thread in my hand.
Needlework came naturally to me as if it is something I brought with me to this life from a time before. I have created with fabric, needle and thread since before I could write. One of my first memories is of walking outside our house, grumbling, "I'm going to break off my teeth." I was so frustrated; this was the most horrible thing I could think of to express that frustration. This stemmed from having an idea in mind of a sewing project that I wanted to create but I had a three year old's limited fine motor abilities. I knew what I wanted but my body was not there yet!

Synchronicity has always been an important player in the intuitive abilities I bring to my professional life and in how I make my quilts. Quilts are a meditative experience for me. I cannot force a quilt into existence. I have to wait for the time that is right within my inner self. Quilts are never work; they take on a life of their own and lead me through the process.

Many times, in interviews, writers will comment that they did not write the book; they were just a conduit through which their characters spoke. My quilts are often done in that manner. I do not plan out my quiIts ahead of time; they just seems to come together of their own as I am inspired by yet another fabric or design concept as I go along. I sometimes start a quilt and get stuck part way through. I have to put it away in my attic and wait for the muse to return. This is sometimes when I realize who that quilt is being created for; at which point, I find it very easy to finish because it just flows.
